Owning a home stands for family

Owning a home stands for family.
A home represents the American Dream.
Homeownership is the cornerstone to a strong neighborhood.
And, for many, the purchase of a home represents the most important financial decision they will make during their lifetime.
I spent 34 years building homes and understand that homeownership is more than just an entry on a bank balance sheet.
In our current economic downturn, the threat of losing one’s home through foreclosure presents enormous economic and emotional pain to families and neighborhoods. This recession is more severe than any other downturn in my memory due to the job losses across all sectors and geography.
We have all seen what happens to neighborhoods when dozens of homes are in foreclosure. The effect touches everyone in that neighborhood - the loss of friends, the loss of safe streets and the depreciating value of people’s homes driven by the empty, unkept real estate.
These are some of the reasons that have led me to getting heavily involved with the effort to re-build in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and in lending a hand to re-build parts of Los Angeles that had been burned down after the riots.
The goal of the Keep Your Home Foundation is to build on those past efforts and bring to bear what I learned professionally over thirty-four years by working to reduce the number of foreclosures and maintain healthy neighborhoods in Los Angeles.
My foundation will assist families in need of resources and information to avoid foreclosure, if humanly possible. I have partnered with Los Angeles Neighborhood Housing Services, who has the vast experience necessary over decades of helping families with homeownership.
I will read every email and ask you to write me with ideas on how we together can reduce the foreclosure problem in our city.
Sincerely,

Bruce Karatz
